Sixpoint gets bottling line, according to New York Times

The rumors appear to be true — my favorite local brewery Sixpoint Craft Ales is getting a bottling line, expanding, and intends to kick more ass than ever.  Read the article here while I finish up a few articles for the site.

A++ (Regenboog ‘t Smisje IPA+)

Reading my last post, you might think that I was a pretty pessimistic guy.  In fact, that’s not the case — I know how lucky I am and I’m often looking forward to some event, some new knowledge, some new interactions.  So living in Brooklyn, I’m lucky to have friends who encourage me to go [...]

Life is Beautiful (’t Gaverhopke Extra)

Living in New York is, put as lightly as I can, a total motherfucker.  The stress, the noise, the overcrowding, the long train rides to work, everything attacks you at once sometimes, making it hard to see how beautiful life truly is.  Even in the beer world, we’re hardly spared — on the Sunnier Coast, [...]

A Proper German Education (”No Joke” Oktoberfest at Spuyten Duyvil)

Beer Advocate has an amazing events list, which keeps track of beer-related get-downs in various cities.  Between that, subscribing to several mailing lists, and having a bit of an inside track with a few beer-employed friends and cohorts, I usually hear about the good events in plenty of time to know what’s coming.  For some [...]

Hops: Just Another Flower (Southampton Cuvee des Fleurs)

I’ve written a bit about the Saison style on this blog, and it should be pretty obvious how fond I am of it — it’s also the first beer I chose to brew.  It’s a flexible style, meant to be at the mercy of the seasons and the necessities of the place where it is [...]

Worth the Wait (Duvel Draft)

Duvel is one of the undisputed prototypes of malted pleasure.  A beyond-style shifting paragon of good beer, Duvel is one of few brews which launched so many imitators that it became it’s own kind of beer.  Michael Jackson campaigned for and loved this beer, and I have come to love it in it’s glory throughout [...]

Ancient Bullshit (Dogfish Head Theobroma)

Sorry, I just don’t get it.  The concept of reformulating and ressurecting old beer recipes is noble, and can produce some excellent beers.  There’s some I’ve heard about that I’m dying to try, and some that I’ve tried that really justify the question of: WHY?
Theobroma is a beer based on an ancient recipe which is [...]

A Harvest Welcome Home (Two Brothers Heavy Handed IPA)

Back from 3 weeks in Europe where I experienced a healthy mix of amazing and totally pitiful beer.  More on that eventually –  I was so excited to drink American Beer when I got home that I ran to the beer shop as soon as I could to catch up on anything I’ve missed.  Mercifully [...]
